yeah, thinking farming feathers for the same amount of time i just wasted farming these stupid essences might have been more worthwhile...could have sold the feathers and bought the essences! qq cleared 75 of the djinns in hidden city 2x and the starter chamber 4x..2 essences in 1hr 15m..curse you anet (and my horrible luck)!

i ran the sliver/commando, clearing only the first room of sapphires and i got the 10 i needed in around an hour

This is the nastiest collectible he's wanted so far :/

Spent a couple of hours wandering between the 5 American districts of Dasha and the WTSs never varied from 5k a pop.

Judging by the chat, most people are 600/Smiting it - something of which I have no experience (and my monk's only got as far as Venta Cem. so far). Somebody pop up that SF commando build, pls - my Ele at least has got to Moddok :/

I remember clearing like half of dasha vestibule with 130hp dervish way back, I guess that still works (and somehow fun).

just blows my mind how some people get no essence drops and some get many. i got 16 in like 3 runs through the hidden city. and i just clearedthe first couple chambers. now that i opened my cavernous trap ill get zilch the rest of the week. KARMA BITE YA IN THE ARSE EVERY TIME!!!!!!!!!!! woooot

my packrat-i-ness has come in handy these last few weeks...have about 50 djinn essences...still get only junk from the traveller (last 4 weeks poppers, honey, ales, mysterious summoners and tonics, not to mention the merch. summoners....though got my first disco balls today...oh boy).
I am wondering when I will get something good from him (and yeah I had the gloom seeds too ).
oh well....at least some of the junk has been handy (rock candy).

now back to fixing my computer (yeah even though its brand new--well almost, still having issues.....argh)

Lol I didn't know an SF/Commando template existed, but I did it on my permasin too with a bonder hero.

I used Watchful Spirit and Mending for some nice regen, Succor for the added energy regen and Vital Blessing for a little hp boost. Worked nicely against the dervish skills.

Farmed my 5 essences just clearing the first chamber in the hidden city in about 30-45min. Bond -> flag -> run all around the pond -> kill -> repeat.

Oh, and I got tired of killing 30 Sapphires and getting no essences, but 4 Ruby Essences out of 15 of those guys. So I just ended up buying them. 3k each was more than worth the pain of farming them.

I messed around with a few builds, eventually got 10 saph essences in about 1.5 hours using an earth ele/bonder build. Now I'm sure I could do the same in less than an hour:

EDIT: Dasha Vestibule - 6-9 sapph in around 5-8 minutes at the end.

A pure ele/mes build should be far superior to my R/ele, but I was too lazy to swap over to my secondary account to test it...

There's always some really old N/Mo build that might do it solo, but I didn't bother with that either - figured damage would be too slow/low with only 1...

Outside Dazgonur Bastion is the best tbh, I tried 600 duo and SF duo in Dasha but when you have to split the drops it's just not worth it. Outside Dzagonur there is 4-6 Djinn, easily killed without the hassle of bonding and it's way faster, plus you keep all drops.
EDIT: Just got 3 drops in 2 runs, took me 10 min.

9 hours i got many golds many essences thankfully 10 of them were the ones i needed. so both my guy and i got our gifts. and as usual we got crap. gg nicholas *kicks*

I did at least half a dozen runs (probably more). Only got 1 essence. All but one run were in normal mode. The one run in HM didn't make any difference...

Used my elementalist with fire 3 fire aoe's and snow storm (for ruby djinns). Block all on the corner with 3 monks healing/protecting me. Only the very first room. Got 1 per run (around an hour).

Same here. I patiently persisted until the third sapphire djinn essence, then gave up. The sapphires would keep dying, leave nothing, and then the veritable shower of diamond djinn essences, ruby djinn essences, and roaring ether claws would pour in.
